Preneed Arrangements
Today, many people are choosing to preplan their funeral. Why? Because a funeral is an important event, and preplanning can relieve some stress and lessen some of the burden left on family and friends. It allows you to make all the decisions and to ensure the funeral of your choice. Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions about preneed arrangements.
What Is CFF?
The Cooperative Funeral Fund, Inc., is an FDIC-insured institution that allows the prepayment of funeral expenses.
How Do I Establish a CFF Account?
Sit with the Funeral Director of your choice, select a funeral, and determine the amount required to fund such a funeral. You will then pay the amount owed and the Funeral Director will deposit that amount into an interest-bearing money market account with CFF. All interest is reported annually and is taxable to the purchaser. A few simple forms must be signed, giving the Funeral Director authority to handle the arrangements.
Do I Have to Pay the Full Amount of the Funeral Costs at the Time I am Making the Arrangements?
Accounts can be opened with any amount, although the suggested amount is $500. After the initial payment, additional deposits may be made at any time.
Can I Get My Money Back if I Change My Mind, or if I Move Away?
Yes. To withdraw from a CFF account, for any reason, let your Funeral Director know. The Funeral Director will have you sign a withdrawal authorization, which he or she will also have to sign and present it to CFF.
Are My Funds Protected?
Yes. Each individual account is fully protected under FDIC standards. Each account earns interest on the full balance with no minimum balance.
Can I Make My Payments Directly to CFF?
Yes you can.
Can a CFF Account Be Useful to Persons on Medicaid?
Yes. Your Funeral Director can assist you in setting up the allowed "Burial Fund" and "Burial Space Amount" allowed by Medicaid, as well as advise you regarding allowable expenses for the Burial Space Amount. In addition, some of the allowable personal funds can be used to fund the entire funeral.
We at Rose's Funeral Home Inc. hope that these answers might give you a little peace of mind. Any further questions may be directed to the Funeral Director.
